May We Never Forget
Michele Bilyeu blogs With Heart and Hands as she shares a quilting journey through her life in Salem, Oregon and Douglas, Alaska. Sewing, quilting, and wildcrafting, with small format art quilts, prayer flags, and comfort quilts for a variety of charitable programs. And best of all, sharing thousands of links to Free Quilt and Quilt Block Patterns and encouraging others to join her and make and donate quilts to charitable causes. Help us change the world, one little quilt at a time!

Such a remarkable man. The world benefited from his presence.
Absolutely! It's unbelievable to even imagine 27 years of imprisonment and most of that in solitary confinement. The story of the guard who secretly brought in President Mandala's (great) grandson and kept the secret for all this time touched my heart among so many other things. He said that he would touch his ears to warn Mandala that they were being listened in on and that the tears streamed down his face when the guard brought the little one in. Even the family did not know the guard had done this and/or they kept the secret, too. Oh the things we do to others and the good that can still exist in them no matter what!
Born in South Chicago, I was taught to hate. When I was in elementary school, I started to form my own opinions. In high school I almost overcame it. I say almost, because I don't think I totally did until President Obama came on the scene. I think he caused a softening in this country, but by far only the first step. I fear I will never see a day when racism is totally non existent.
Nelson Mandela was the most remarkable man.
This was a good post.
brought tears to my eyes that he is no longer with us..he was truly one of the shining examples of being Love.
