Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries

“Life is just a bowl of cherries. Don't take it serious; Life's so mysterious. Life is just a bowl of cherries.....So live and laugh at it all!
George Gershwin

Happiness is sharing a bowl of cherries and a book of poetry with a shade tree.
He doesn't eat much and doesn't read much, but listens well and is a most gracious host.
~Astrid Alauda

my homemade cloth napkins

fast fact:

A paper napkin is used only once. The average cloth napkin is reused 50 tmes. Since the cloth napkin will be reused fifty times, we need to consider the impact of washing and drying. Washing and rinsing the cloth napkin probably uses around 2.8 to 5 gallons of water per pound of fabric. Add to that the use of soap and the energy used in drying. If you use cloth napkins, the enviromental recommendtion is to use biodegradable, phosphate-free soap. Then, use the energy-saving settings on your washing machine, and line-dry them.

my conclusion:
I will hang dry these cloth napkins while I eat my cherries, and read poetry under that shade tree.

For the last decade, I've been using cloth napkins. I give them as gifts, too. In fact, LittleSister said she wore out the last set and could she have more? Easy to make with the rolled hem on my serger. 1 yard = 4 napkins @ 16" square each.

I, too, am a fan of cloth napkins. I air dry them by stacking them flat (6-8 high) on top of the dryer or kitchen counter. I'm always amazed that they appear as if I had ironed them ... especially the linen ones.
