My Own Book of Hours

God speaks to each of us as he makes us,
then walks with us silently out of the night.
These are the words we dimly hear:

You, sent out beyond your recall,
go to the limits of your belonging.
Embody me.

Flare up like flame
and make big shadows that I can move in.

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.
Don't let yourself lose me.

Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know it by its seriousness.

Give me your hand.

 (From Rilke's Book of Hours)

A lot of incredibly challenging things happening right now...prayers, good thoughts, healing energies for our family including our new grandpuppy, Ocho, who had to have emergency surgery after vertically slicing his tongue 3/4 of its length. The stitches have come out in just a day and left his tongue hanging by a couple of stitches and a small flap.

With the consultation of three vets. It was decided that the best chance for saving his tongue was to put him into a second surgery. He came through the second surgery fine. He is now at home on puppy painkillers, wearing a muzzle, and sedated for 5 days.
My daughter has to feed him gruel and give him pain pills without touching the tongue and all of its stitches. It has not been easy but they are doing their best.

Please keep our precious grandpuppy in your thoughts and prayers. Saving a dog's tongue is more than cosmetic. A dog needs its tongue to eat and to drink, to groom and clean itself, to pant and to sweat, and to show affection and love to others.

Please keep this beloved and precious puppy in your thoughts and prayers and send him a little blessing. Thank you!

I hope things improve for you and your family, sometimes we just have too much all at once. Poor pup, mine is always over doing it and always worried he will hurt himself.

Sending big prayers to YOU and your family for the challenges you face... I guess with a large family, there are many more challenges and hardships..... I wish you strength to endure it all. I love the poem at the beginning, especially the part "make big shadows that I can move in".... touched me... and sorry for the grandpuppy's tongue.. I hope it heals OK. You are such an inspiration to me and I wish you the best and wellness that you so deserve. Hugs...

Oh my gosh! I have never heard of a tongue injury like that on a dog. I hope the surgery worked and Ocho recovers quickly. He is a beautiful border collie with those striking eyes. I will keep him in my thoughts!

What a beautiful pup! His eyes just radiate LOVE, don't they? I can't imagine how difficult it would be to feed and medicate him without touching his tongue & stitches, but we do what we have to do when it comes to pets, family, and other loved ones. Best wishes for his exuberant recovery!
