Quilting, Crafting and Sewing: ADD or OCD ?

Or is 'Quilter's ADD' really 'OCD'?

We can all be a little of either or both
about quilting and many of us about fabric  shopping. But are we guilty of a truly "Obsessive Disorder?

Or are we just opportunistic? We see something we could use and we have to have it? Or we're feeling low, missing our old lives, or younger years ?

Are we just "fabric collectors" and "appreciaters" who want to touch, sniff, and pet our lovely comforting fabrics or psychos who at any minute that might start screaming out loud "Because I need this much that's why to do what I do!" Or really are we just competitive winners whose mantra is "the one who dies with the most fabric wins!"

Read the rest at my #1 post for all of last year❣

Nice to see you posting...even an old one

The healing is in the talking...sharing your word till you feel heard...Collecting feeds the empty heart.

I am thinking about you xoxoxo

I'm so pleased I read this, it's made me feel so much better.

I'm onsessed with collecting files & photos. I was having a fit last week when I had to reboot Windows & lost my files on the laptop. They are backed up on the Cloud or so I thought but I still haven't found them all, some are there some are not.
I also have them on a hard drive and have found most of them but I decided I'm just going to let go of what I can't find. I've only ever used a minute number of the patterns so what's gone is gone.

Crumbs that woman's collection of fabric is mindblowing, makes me feel so much better Michelle. Thank you.

Everything you said at first is probably true! I think we're OCD, obsessed, in love with, and collectors of, beautiful fabrics. I do love to touch, pet and smell them! I love the excitement of the "hunt" for just the right piece that I KNOW I'll use someday! I've been that way since I was a child. I would love going to the fabric stores, and dream about what I would make out of what I bought. But usually, I never did make anything! The fun was in the buying and hunting, and looking and enjoying the colors that soothed me and made me happy. I still have piles of fabrics I bought 40 years ago! I'm still "going to make that vest" out of that brushed corduroy that sits on my shelf! I can't bear to part with it, same with all the others. I now and then do attempt to make a top but it usually fails.. so it's better to just leave it on the shelf to love and adore! I did "destash" a few years ago... sent an entire big box of my fabrics to the thrift store. Boy did that hurt! And I do pull pieces now and then for a little wall hanging or lap quilt I'm giving as a gift, but then of course, I usually have to go buy more to match it! Oh well.. I'm a collector of fabric and I'm proud of it! Yes, it's a passion, but not so much an obsession anymore as I've learned to limit myself, but sometimes it's very hard.. and I have to just NOT go to fabric stores anymore, as I spend my grocery money on fabric, and that's a no no. Glad to see your post! Hope all is well... Marilyn

Thank you Diane. Your hurting heart is always in my prayers. I pray for peace from all of your years of suffering unresolved grief. And I so admire your ever present and continuing ability to "just go sew" and sharing of the works of your sewing machine and caring heart with others. ❤

Dearest Winifred, oh its all the saves that I can so relate to. All the pretty pictures and creative ideas we hold in our digital or real life folders that we love so much and dream of making and doing. They keep me going even on days when only the smallest things might actually be made. But the dreams are as real to us as the lives we seem to be living And really we shouldn't feel quilts or bad or sad that we all do the best we can with what we have even if we hoard in our own ways or procrastinate in so many powers. Look at us all. What a great group of women we truly are❣❤❣❤
