AAQI August Auction: "And The Greatest of These is Love"

My small format art quilt, And the Greatest of These is Love, is now up for bidding at the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative's August Auction.  I know, it's hard to part with money for someone else's quilts..but this is for such a wonderful cause.

Quilt #15,000 - And The Greatest Of These Is Love

Quilt #15,000 - And The Greatest Of These Is Love
Michele Bilyeu
Salem, OR USA

Width: 8.5" Length: 10.75"
Materials/Techniques: Batiks and cotton fabrics, machine and raw edge appliqué, sequins and hand quilting. It is "portrait finished" with the addition of a second, or background matting quilt for a 3D effect.

Artist Statement: My mother is nearing the end of eight long years of battling Alzheimer's disease. Each of us takes turns living with her and caring for her every need in our childhood home in Alaska. We face each new day with faith, with hope, and with endlessly giving of ourselves. But above all else, we face each new day with love.

Dedication: For my mother, my father, my brothers, and my sister-in-laws, for my aunts, for my uncles; and for all of us who have battled Alzheimer's disease, or faced the challenges of caring and loving someone who suffers its ravages. May we always love and never, ever lose sight of a cure.

I am so honored that my quilt "And The Greatest of These is Love" is the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative's quilt #15,000. And now, it is up for auction to the highest bidder with all profits going to fund Alzheimer's Disease research in the AAQI's August Auction.

The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative holds monthly online auctions during the first 10 days of each month, hosted by BenefitBidding.com.  The auction bidding will begin with an opening bid of $40.00 to start off each quilt and then is raised in additional small bids after that.   Please consider at least being my opening bid.....as I need to get it off and running as soon as the auction opens!  You are able to also set up  "Popcorn or Auto Bidding with a final bidding price set by you. So if you wanted to open at $40 and close at $50..you could do that. But for generous donaters to this cause you can go as high as you want or feel you can, for the final amount!  It's that easy to do! Otherwise click on the quilt at any time, and bid at any day, any time!

The quilts are all placed in numerical order this month, and usually the last quilt...which is mine!...gets less attention. I would so appreciate that not happening to me ;) and my dear little quilt which really is quite special and I do so love having created and donated for this special cause and this last specially numbered quilt!

Please check out all of the quilts on the Benefit Bidding website.   We are all so very grateful to our auction hosts, Mary and Lloyd Cooper, who donate their time and online auction site, so that 100% of the money raised goes to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative! And again...all of the profits from the sales of all of our quilts goes to Alzheimer's research funding!

Below are the August 2013 auction quilts. Mine, shown above, will be the last one in the numerical order below. Please at least click on it below and read what I had to say about making this quilt and who I honored by its creation.

Thank you so much for your support. The purchase of my quilts has meant the world to me, and I dearly, dearly hearing back from quilt purchasers and finding out where they now have wonderful and loving homes!

The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative's August Auction begins first thing in the morning of August 1st and runs until 10:00 pm (Central Time) on August 10. Please click on my quilt during this auction and check to view its progress. The more good thoughts and positive energies sent its way, the more we manifest the possibilities of its earning a lovely sum of money towards research for this horrible, horrible disease that has devastated so many of our families lives.
