Where's George?

Today is President's Day, a day most of us only acknowledge in passing, or as a day off from work.

But traditionally, it was celebrated as our first president, George Washington's birthday, which actually falls on Feb. 22.

Now known as "President's Day" it's meant to honor all past presidents and is a Federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February.

I'm donning my country brick red sweatshirt appliqued with a simple heart pattern that took less than hour to make, including finding the 'put away' $3 sweatshirt purchased on clearance, pulling out some quick co-coordinating fabrics and making this. I can now wear it on all chilly Patriotic occasions ;)

Happy Birthday, George, Abe, and all the rest of you. Thanks so much for your service. And now...the new way to celebrate George at Where'sGeorge.com...tracking all of the marked dollar bills that cross my path and seeing where its serial number has last been! I've found a couple of these in my shopping change..have you come across any of them?

Keep your eyes open. Sometime people just write in rather than have the 'official' stamp. This one is stamped front and back and I am hoping to attend Oregon's famous Mennonite Quilter's show this weekend and spend it on something and send it off on a new tracking journey!

Wikipedia says:LinkWhere's George? is a website that tracks the natural geographic circulation of American paper money. Its popularity has led to the establishment of a number of other currency tracking websites (of which Where's George? remains the most popular by far), sites that track other objects—such as used books—and it has been used in at least one research paper to provide statistical patterns of human travel in the United States.

As of 29 January 2012, Where's George? is tracking 202,572,054 bills totaling US$1,091,694,897.[2] These numbers are constantly changing as users add the bills they are tracking.

Want to track mine after this weekend? It's serial number is:H29577378C
Right now, George is with me, but after this weekend, he's seeing the world!

Love the sweatshirt...I still like to decorate them and I wear them all the time. I had never seen a dollar bill like this, but will watch more closely now!

Thank you so much! By the way, if you are interested in having a blogging name of any kind, it is easy to sign up for a free gmail name and gain one in the process or if you wanted created only the home page of a beginning of a blog (but you don't need to even make one) and then you can have a profile of your choosing as well! I don't mind anonymous but it is fun knowing who nice people are!

I had no idea about the tracking program for dollar bills, I will definitely be looking now! Thanks, Michele!

What a fun idea, tracking George! It reminds me of "George Washington slept here" slogan that innkeepers used to say to promote their place of business.
