Prayer of an Unknown Confederate Soldier

This is so wonderful, I just had to share it. It so perfectly fits any of us who belong to the 99% and are still doing the very best that we can in spite of any of our life challenges!

Prayer of an Unknown Confederate Soldier

"I asked for strength that I might achieve;
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health that I might do greater things;
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy;
I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I had asked for, but everything that I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered;
I am, among all men, most richly blessed."

(author unknown)

And, I just realized for the first time today, that as a child of the Union of the North (Alaska) and the South (Louisiana) I am a Union/Confederation ancestral blend. I love that!

And in honor of today being my husband's 62nd birthday and his having served in the National Guard after graduation from college in 1971 ...Vietnam, not Confederate era ;) I updated my free patriotic patterns list.... again!

So, in honor of our soldiers (both at home and abroad) and in the spirit of the good work and service that so many do in our country..... here's my collection of over 100 links to free quilt or quilt block patterns.

It includes some that are traditional, some that date back to the Civil War, and some amazing and wonderful stars, stripes, flags and even service banners!

one of my lap-sized string quilts with a pre-purchased center panel, makes up quickly and easily and is perfect for someone who is usually seated, as in a wheelchair.

At her age, she pretty much sits wherever she wants to! Even when I am quilting!!!!

Its a humbling prayer. So very thought provoking, no matter your ancestry or religion.

One of my very best friends and her Hubby are an awsome pair. on their mantel they have a pic of his grandfather ( a German soldier) and her grandfather (an American soldier) both from only two years apart! Kind of cool! Thank you for links for all the great patterns

Happy happy birthday to your dear hubby!! :) Did you make him a birthday cake and sing to him? ;) Thank you bunches for the prayer...I want to print it out and post it on the fridge or somewhere where all in my house will see it. And thank you for the pattern links. You are such a generous soul. :D (p.s.I would love to have access to you by phone, snail mail, rails, and trails.) LOL

Thank you for sharing that prayer. It doesn't matter that it's from a Confederate soldier. It's applicable to everyone/anyone. Oh that we could all be possessed of such wisdom.

So glad I came back to catch up on blogs! Look at all the patterns you have listed, doing that is wonderful. For the past year I've been collecting patriotic fabrics for making soldier's quilts. In
2012 I hope to finish several to donate. Maybe I shoud give one to my hubby, he gave 24 hard years to the Army (combat arms).
Thanks for the list!

I love the picture of the cat with this poem. He looks as if he's bowing his head in prayer. Thank you for the patriotic list. I'm trying to compile a New Testament list, and it's tricky, but fun!

Wow - sorry I am so late at commenting and reading. I've been busy writing articles on the website. What a great poem and huge list of quilting patterns. I'll forgive you for the cat picture since this one is so appropriate! Aak Choo!
